Common Grace is a ministry of Lakeview Moravian Community Church & Zion Faith Community (ELCA). We believe that building relationships of love, compassion, and mutual care will help bring peace and justice to our neighborhood and the world. This ministry is the coming together of two congregations — not merging, but collaborating — to create space for life-giving, community work and to build relationships that make positive impact on our neighborhood through love and service.
Our vision is actually a much larger sense of Common Grace. We are working towards a building renovation that creates space for more community partners to do vital work for the health and wellness of our community. While the two faith communities and the preschool will be anchor organizations in the building, plans lean more toward a ‘community center’ model, rather than a ‘church model’. We hope to partner with groups of similar missions, some who may need a landing place for their everyday operations and others who will need rehearsal, lesson, performance and meeting space. After six years of having a greater number of community folks use the building on a weekly basis, than the small church congregation, we are convinced that the neighborhood needs a community-focused presence on the triangle so that organizations so that organizations — that bring us together and make life better — will have safe space to do good work for all.
Our Community Partners
El Jardín Infantil Preschool is a Spanish/English bilingual preschool for children 3 years old and up. They have a play-based curriculum and highly qualified early education teachers. They have been part of the neighborhood since 2016.
Seeds of Peace Madison is a coalition of faith communities on the east side of Madison, WI working together to alleviate suffering in their communities. They gather in our building to provide a weekend nutrition program for Herbert Schenk Elementary, Frank Allis and Nuestro Mundo elementary schools.
Madison Shakespeare Company presents year-round classic theater in Madison and surrounding communities. Since 2016, MSC has rehearsed performances large and small in our building, transforming almost every square inch of the grounds into a throne room, battlefield, or lovers’ hideaway at one time or another.
Left of Left Center performs original and unusual theatrical creations. Since 2016, our building has been an essential rehearsal space for the troupe, and even served as performance venue for a 2017 world premiere.
StageQ is a not-for-profit community theatre–primarily volunteer run–whose mission is to celebrate and advance queer representation through theatre written by and about LGBTQ+ persons. StageQ was founded in 2001 in order to provide a stable home for gay and lesbian-themed plays in the broader Madison community. StageQ is a resident of the Bartell Community Theatre where we produce 3-5 productions annually. We serve as a home for queer artists to tell their stories on stage and allow queer audiences the ability to see themselves and their lives represented on stage.
